I'm a bit behind on my blogging, so today I'm gonna show you four kits. First the ones that actually came out this week lol. First is Bath Time by Becky Young Designs. I thought this one was so cute! Its 20% off this week.

Next up is Kinderstory by The Scrappy Kat and Mommy Me Time Scrapper. It has so many little felt elements.

Now another from Becky Young Designs. This one is called Beep! Beep!. This one is kind of dark, but bright at the same time, and was great for pictures of some road trips.

For this layout I used a template by A Work in Progress- Designs by Vickie.
And finally, here's Fly Boy by The Scrappy Kat and Seal Scraps. I love how this kit included both the dark green and red, yellow, and blue, as you'll see from my layouts.

Two New Kits

And here to get mine. The colors this month reminded me of my grandma's house. She had some stripey curtains in the yellow color, so that's how I named my kit.

July STS Blog Train: Greetings From

I'm so excited about this blog train. My kit is pretty neat if I do say so myself, and all the other kits are awesome and so diverse! There's a beach kit, a circus kit, kits about the United States and other countries, and then there's mine.

Greetings from Earth and Greetings from the Galaxy! Credit for the idea goes to Kelcey who suggested it in the forum. This kit was so fun to make. The planets especially. (and you can make some yourself by following this gimp tutorial) Oh and if you're wondering about the little heart and the towel (or the blue rectangle with smaller blue rectangles on it) those are some Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy References. I was being way to self-indulgent with those and if you delete them it won't hurt my feelings. :)

So today I've been on the Scrappy Kat's CT for 1 year! I knew it was getting close and I looked back thru my blog and it was one year ago today! I'm so glad to have been on her CT for a year. It's been awesome. I read that blog post from a year ago and I found an absolutely crazy coincidence. Here's the blog post. This is what I said at the end.

"The sad thing is I've been too busy to work with the kit I won and downloaded today and I won't be able to tomorrow since I'm going with some friends to shop in Nashville for the day. So maybe I'll have some layouts to show you on Wednesday. Now I'm off to print out a map of the mall."

...

Guess what I'm doing tomorrow?! Yup going to Nashville with the same friends (minus one exchange student who is back in her home country of Germany, and minus one mom who we convinced this year that we would be fine on our own) to go shopping! I'm not gonna lie, this is kinda freaky.
Well anyway since I'll be gone tomorrow (leaving at the bright and early teenagers-in-the-summer time of 8 AM) I've scheduled the blog train and another post with a QP freebie for tomorrow, so look for those.

Here's some gimp tutorial sites I've found lately.
Gtuts isn't really for scrapbooking or photos but it has a neat tutorial about making planets. They look so realistic, and I have at least one in my part of the STS July blog train. I'm gonna practice and make some more.
Gimp Guru has some really neat photo tutorials. I haven't tried any yet, but they look really helpful, especially for people like me who just have a point and shoot. They have one on reducing CCD noise (which is the graininess and noise that you sometimes see in digital pictures), removing red eye, converting to black and white, adjusting images to make them less hazy, and lots more stuff.
In my Digi GIMP World is actually a scrapbooking site. Some of her tutorials include text along a path, recoloring, creating those neat wavy, curvy elements that are popping up everywhere, and one that's sort of started an obsession for me, using the perspective tool to make better shadows. I use that on almost every layout now.

Strikes And Spares

The Scrappy Kat has a new collab with Scrapalicious Cereal called Strikes and Spares. It's a bowling kit, but as you can see from my layouts, there's plenty of elements and papers that could be used on any kind of layout.

And here's my layouts. Both are of buildings on campus. The "Franlin" one is supposed to be Franklin lol. It's my dorm. The Fine Arts Building has all the music, art, and I think theater classes, and several auditoriums and an art gallery.

I haven't done the blog train in a while, so here's my part of the June blog train. I'm not sure how if the pieces go together very well, but I really liked each thing individually, and there's lots of other kits to match with it. The kit is called Summer Romance and me and my boyfriend's relationship sort of started out as a summer romance. We started going out a couple weeks before school ended. So when I was making this kit I thought of our first summer and chilling outside with friends and going to the carnivals and fairs and the whole first love, puppy love, cuteness thing :). Oh well. This way you can put your title and journaling on it then rotate it and put it on another paper if you want. :)

Preschool Days and Other CT Stuff

So Kat's son is going to preschool this year. She made this adorable kit called Preschool Days and there's about a million add-ons to go with it. You can buy the kit, some sparkly papers, plain cardstock, and quickpages in her store. She also has a freebie add-on on her blog.

I didn't have any preschool pictures, but I still had fun with this kit. Here's my layouts.

I made this layout with a template by Scraps N Pieces. It's the template challenge this month at the Stuff to Scrap Forum.

Those cars circled have no significance. The string just happened to fall that way. My car and most people I know's cars are in the other parking lot that's farther away that you can barely see in the picture. The joys of being a freshman. :)

Just Something I Needed to Let Out

I wasn't sure if I should post anything about this. I know not very many people read my blog and I don't wanna put things like this up, because I know it makes people sad and this isn't really a personal blog, but I need to get this out somehow. Here we go.
Last Thursday was my first football game (or band performance with football in between depending on how you look at it) My parents came, but left after half time (plus there was a toga party and it would be awkward if they came to my room after and there were people leaving in togas) so I called my mom after the game and asked how we did. She was like Sis you guys were great but I got a call and Bub's been in a car wreck and I'm on my way to the hospital. So I was like ok just call or text when you get there and let me know what's happening.
Ok so Bub is my mom's best friend's son. His name is Donnie but that's his dad's name too so a lot of people call him Bub. I haven't talked to him in years but when we were growing up he was one of my best friends. We kinda drifted apart like a lot of people do, and so did my mom and his mom, but they'd call occasionally. I hadn't talked to him in a while but when his cousin who I'm kinda friends with told me his girlfriend had been cheating on him, I was about as ready to beat the girl up as his cousin was.
I'm sure you know where this is going by now, but I called my boyfriend to reassure me and I was gonna call him anyway. He calmed me down and we got to talking about other things, but I was still worried because it had been about 45 minutes since my mom called and the hospital is only 30 minutes from our house. I knew it couldn't be good, because if he had just broken his arm or something, his dad (who my mom talks to even less than she talks to his mom) wouldn't have called.
So she called me back and she was crying. She told me he died.
I pretty much freaked out. We made arrangements for her and my step-dad to come get me because I was shaking and there was no way I could drive home. I called Josh (my boyfriend) back and he wanted to ride down with me, that way he could drive my car back home so he came too. By the time my mom got away from the hospital and we got back home, it was 2 a.m.
I actually went to sleep ok and I woke up the next morning when my mom called and said she had tried to go to work but couldn't and she was going to their house. She works at a florist, and they got an order for him and she knew she couldn't take orders and type his name over and over again.
So we went over there and we've been at their house a lot since. His mom is doing about as well as you can in a situation like this and his dad is trying to be strong for her, I think. The visitation was tonight and the funeral is tomorrow, then I'm going back to college.
Donnie was a good guy, and I know it's cliche but he really is part of what made me who I am. He introduced me to so many things when we were little, Pokemon, those little finger skateboards, the crocodile hunter. We'd always go to Mcdonald's or Burger King with our moms. He had a girlfriend and they hadn't been going out for long. He was in Florida when he asked her out. He wrote will you go out with me in the sand and took a picture and sent it to her. He also leaves behind a little brother who's 11.
So if you've read all this, thank you. I know I risk sounding cliche again, but through all this you learn that your life can change instantly. I know I'm going to try harder to keep in touch with people after this. I know my mom and his mom are closer now than they've ever been. My area has lost a lot of young people in car accidents and I know I drive a lot more carefully.
Once again, thanks if you read this. Writing it out made me feel better.

Hey people. College is going pretty well. Haven't had much time to blog. There's a bunch of stuff going on at Stuff to Scrap. First of all JW-Digiscraps recently started selling and she's having a grand opening sale!

She's also hosting a speed scrap. The participation prize is quickpages made from her newest kit. And check her blog for more quickpages and other goodies that go with this kit.

Another new designer, Sudesh Designs is having a ct call.

Country Carnival Quickpages

So I'm scheduling this post and hopefully it'll work. I'll probably be at band camp. If you read this during the day, I'll be inside practicing music, if you're reading this from about 6:00 to about 10:00 at night, I'll be outside practicing marching. If you're reading after 10, who knows. I'm so excited but so incredibly nervous. See, I have this problem when I get really nervous for trying out for something: I don't practice! It's absolutely insane and I can't explain it. I know the other kid from my school going hasn't practiced either, so I won't be alone lol! I'm expecting to play last part anyway, since I'll be a freshman.
Anyway, here's your quickpage. I'm quite proud of the preview. I scanned and fixed the colors on the corkboard myself. (and when you read this, that corkboard will be hanging on my dorm room wall!)

Twitter and College

I made a twitter. Not quite sure what to do now lol. Thought it might be nice for college since I'll be busy maybe. I can just whip out the phone and text some updates. Do you get texts when people you follow tweet? I'm not sure. Follow me if you feel like it. I've got a widgit on the bottom right sidebar. (though right now all I've tweeted is about how I almost threw up and I wanna see Green Day on Carson Daley but I'm not gonna stay up that late)I want more people to follow too, so follow me and I'll follow you. Guess that's how it works. It's kinda weird that I'm young and supposed to know all this technology stuff but I'm not entirely sure how to use twitter. I'm all about facebook though. Maybe Ashton Cutcher will tell me. He's on Jimmy Fallon right now which is really wierd to me. I'm talking about twitter and the most famous twitter dude is on tv.
Gosh that was rambling. Anyway I'm starting college tomorrow so not sure how much I'll be able to blog. I'm leaving around 7:30, so I should probably sleep, but I'm almost sure I won't be able too.
And oh my gosh, my dorm doesn't have elevators! I'm on the 4th floor! That seems wrong to me. Not just cuz I'm lazy and I have a mini van full of stuff to bring, but what if I make friends with someone in a wheel chair? Are they just not supposed to see my dorm? And isn't that something they should list? They tell you which dorms have suite bathrooms and community baths, shouldn't elevators be listed? Oh well. At least I don't have to go down the hall to use the bathroom. Two of my friends have down the hall bathrooms and they don't even have sinks in their room! Imagine that, you have to brush your teeth in for all intents and purposes a public restroom. Anyway maybe 4 flights of stairs will help with that whole freshman 15 thing!

There's a speed scrap tomorrow. I thought I'd be able to make it but I have a piano lesson then I have to go buy a refrigerator for my dorm. I thought I was gonna have to buy a microwave, but my boyfriend and his mom got one for me. I need a 600 watt one and we were just gonna get a 700 watt one and hope for the best since 600 is so hard to find, but Josh ordered one from wal mart. They're bringing it down Sunday after I move in when they come down for the concert. I move in a week from yesterday! I'm sort of alternating between excitement and sheer terror lol, but it's gonna be ok I think. Anyway here's the speed scrap info.

A Bunch of STS stuff

So I probably should've had some of this stuff up earlier but my laptop's wireless switch turned off somehow (I didn't even know they had those) I tried to connect to the network and it wouldn't work, then it said something like do a diagnostic test to see what's wrong. I did that and it said my wireless switch was off and it's usually on the front or side of the laptop or a key combination. Well I looked online and in the manual and couldn't find it, so I called the tech support and they got me fixed up. Turns out it's this little light that you touch.

Anyway there's a new mega kit at Stuff to Scrap called Route 66. Here's all the pictures.

Just a Few Random Things

I've been doing the Digi Town Square Carnival and I won a prize! (not the grand prize which was $10 to Sweet Shoppe Designs, Scrapbook-Elements, Brownie Scraps, and Digital Scrapbooking Classes. It would've been awesome to get all that.) I got a $5 gift coupon to Stuff to Scrap! Kinda ironic, because I'm sure they were trying to get new customers by donating that prize, but one of the few people that goes on both sites got it! I just bought my kits and I only had to pay $.50 after my coupon. (And I was good. I didn't buy any more even though it's so silly to have a $.50 charge on my debit card.) I picked Garden Party by Scraps by Andrea and Carefree by Manda's Scrappin Creations. I'll post some layouts later.

I won a blog to win contest at Stuff To Scrap last week. Nicole had a contest for her blogaversary and I won Smile. I'll post a layout from that too.

Gimp Scripts: Rays and Sunbursts

This script makes rays or sunbursts. It also makes ray animations. You can download it from here. I'll show you how to make paper and a binkie.
For the paper, make a new image 3600X3600 300dpi. (Dpi is under advanced options. Put 300 for x resolution and y resolution.)

Fill in the background with the color you want using the bucket fill.
Now go to Filters, then Werdn, then Rays...

Pick which color you want for the rays or check rays gradient and pick the gradient you want. I left all the settings on default for this tutorial, but you could always change them and see what you get.

Now press ok and you should get something like this.

Add an overlay and you have a paper. This script only makes the rays from the center, but you could make an image bigger than 3600X3600, then paste it into a 3600X3600 and drag it around to where you want it.
Now for the blinkie. This is just to get you started on a blinkie. I'm nowhere near good enough with the Gimp Animation Package to make a full tutorial on blinkies.

Go to Filters, then Werdn, then Rays Animation...

Pick your color and mess with any settings. I used the default settings on everything except the Frames. If you have 40 frames, the animation looks seamless and it looks like the rays just keep turning forever.

Now go to FX-Foundry, then Animation, then Combine with Background. (you could do this manually without FX-Foundry, but that would take a really long time.)

To see what your animation looks like, go to Filters, Animation, Playback...
Now you can add other things to this animation, but here's what just the rays look like, if you delete the background layer.

To save the animation, save it as .gif and you will get an option to save as an animation.

Gimp Scripts: FX-Foundry Glass or Acrylic

FX-Foundry is a large collection of scripts. I'm still exploring it, but I've found a way to make glass text. It really looks more like acrylic to me so I think it can work for digi scrapping. Here's what it looks like.

First you need to download FX-Foundry from here. If you don't know how to install it, you can check out my tutorial here.
Now that you have it installed, go to Filters, then FX-Foundry, then Logos, then GlassEffect text.

As you can see, there's another menu called FX-Foundry. I have no idea why the scripts are in two places. (You can also see my arm on the desktop)
So click GlassEffect text and this is what you get.

You'll want to change a few of these settings. The size of the font should be really big, anywhere from 500 to 900. In my opinion it looks best with a thick font that has clean lines. A jagged grungy font is going to look kinda funky. The default color will make it more transparent but you can change it to whatever you want. You can experiment with the glass depth and translucency. I set the depth to 10 and kept the tranlucency on 64. Uncheck include background and include shadow.
Now you have some text that you can copy and paste into a layout. Or type the whole alphabet and you can make an alpha.

Unfortunately, this only works on text. You could use some dingbat fonts to make elements. Here's what Samantha looks like in Wingdings 2. Those a's would be nice as elements.

Gimp Tutorial: Installing Scripts and Brushes and Stuff

There are lots of scripts available for gimp. Many are available at GIMP Plug-in Registry. I'll go over some I've found in a later post but for now here's how to install scripts. In Windows Vista it's located in C:, then Program Files (X however many programs you have), then GIMP-2.0, then share, then gimp, then 2.0, then scripts. You'll notice there's other folders here too. There's a folder for brushes where you can put gimp and photoshop brushes. If you don't know where all your folders are located, open up gimp and go to edit, then preferences.

Then at the bottom, go to folders and you can see the locations of all your folders.

You can have the gimp open when you install the filters. All you do is go to Filters, then Script-Fu, then Refresh Scripts. If you don't have the gimp open, you don't have to do that.

The only bad thing about scripts is that the scripts could show up anywhere on the gimp menu. They could be under filters or have their own menu. A lot of the time when you download scripts, they will tell you how to find them.

Speaking of dorm stuff... I don't know my room mate but I know what dorm I'm in. I looked at a virtual tour online and it looks a lot better than the one in my layout. That particular dorm was really gross. You can see in one of the pictures that part of the window is just laying there with duct tape on it! I stayed there for a few days during trumpet camp. Tomorrow it'll be three weeks til I move in! Then I do band camp for about a week then its classes! I'm so excited!

My First Speed Scrap!

So tonight I did my first speed scrap ever! It was over at Stuff to Scrap. It was fun. I hope I can do more. I was kinda nervous so hopefully it'll get easier with practice. If you want lots of comments on your layouts, do a speed scrap. At least the one I did, everyone is so nice and you comment on everybody's layouts. Here's my layout.
